Subject: Metal I just received a new catalog from Wicks and was pleasantly surprised to find in it an itemized and priced bill of materials for metal for the Bearhawk. I haven't yet checked it for accuracy, but it seems pretty complete. At any rate, this could save some time and head scratching for those of us ready to order.... Chris Durham # 492 http://www.wicksaircraft.com/ +++ #6012 From: "Mark and Tina Lapierre" Subject: Wing Metal List I've had a number requests for scanned copies of the Wicks invoices for the metal I just bought for the wings. Wicks invoices are yellow and the print is light. I scanned at 400 x 400 and saved them as tiffs. As a result the two files are 1.65M each. They look like crap on screen, but print them and they're very readable. I've posted them to the files section of the group. They're in a folder called "Wing_Metal". Mark +++ #6013 From: "Montee, Dan L." Subject: RE: [Bearhawk] Metal I ordered the wing steel package from Wicks. The package is incomplete and they seem to substitute freely. That being said, I'd order it again. It's a great starter package. I filled in the blanks with a local supplier. Dan Montee #415 +++ #6014 From: "Mark and Tina Lapierre" Subject: Re: [Bearhawk] Metal Is it a steel package, or a steel / aluminum package? I bought a materials for wings a couple of weeks ago and they didn't have any material lists for the bearhawk at all. Had to create my own list. Mark Lapierre #493 +++ #6016 From: "doug" Subject: Wing Metal hints...was> Re: Metal For the wing metal, there is a 4130 tube and plate list, and it is labeled as what is needed per each Drawing number. It is fairly accruate as to what is there. I checked the Drawings and compared the list and bought the materals through drawing #14. To get only the wing iron you will have to buy the material by the foot. If you have to buy extra length to get what you need, check the other Drawings to make sure that you have enough usable lengths when the fuslage gets a turn with your hands. Wicks worked for ALL the wing iron and the 4130 tube and plate & 2024T3 .125 and .063 plate, 2024T3 flat bars and the 6061 flat bars. Also the long flat stock came box rather well and trucking time beat the normal UPS time out here on the west coast. It is much better to get your 2024T3 .032 & .025 in a coil from Airparts. I had looked at both sheard flats and at coil. With the coil there is very little waste. You might be able to do OK with the flats if you map out all your drops and where where to use them. This requires marking for identifaction and extra handeling. The longest AL skin piece is about 9' for the bottom wing skin and the spar pieces are under 8'. With a coil you unroll it when its needed. I did not provide a maeteals list because I fabricate from a very tight materials. BE WARY of all the lists as there are only accurate for the one producing them. They are a good place to start. I still have some Vented Fuel Caps, if anybody interested, Buds demonstrator will be sporting a pair. Doug Knight #433 +++ #6061 From: "doug" Subject: Re: New file uploaded to Bearhawk I briefly reviewed the faxed copys and saw two Errors that really stuck out. First error was that of 12' of 3/4 x.095 4130, only 2" are required. Next was .125 4x4 2024T3, where only half should be ordered with some good sized chunks left over. Hopfully the extra is not for a pannel. If you follow others without checking you make thier mistakes too. Doug #433 +++ #6378 From: Mark_Deacon/MSP/Mesaba%Mesaba@M... Mark Deacon #188 http://www.ulmcorp.com/ +++ #6386 From: Bob Romanko Subject: Finding Salvaged Aircraft Two good ways to find salvage aircraft are the Web, and local crashes. A few salvage auction sites are: http://www.ulmcorp.com http://www.aau.com (You can receive an email when new AC arrive) Now, we're not talkin' eBay with these folks, it's a notification of sale and you submit a sealed bid. Don't think every deal's a steal, though. Jim Harkness got his Beech for a song and has made a tidy profit. A local wreck (Mooney) that was sitting over at Orange fetched $17,000. The guy who bought it was a Mooney guru, and I think I remember Jim telling me he flew it home after piecing the fuselage back together. By the way, that Cessna 172 on the AAU site looks like it would have been a nice contender for the right price. New plane, straight prop, IO-360, nice panel, etc. It's a 2000 model, and died with only 348 on the Hobbs. Wonder what it went for? That low-time engine and panel probably drove the price way up.
